Blogs as current phenomenon & benefits of blogging to the community



Blogs have emerged as a powerful medium and mushroomed all over the world. Blogs can be classifed as an alternative media which challenge the discourse of mainstream media especially in Asia ( Wu, 2009). Blogs are web-based medium for authors to express their thoughts and opinions on any subject matter that is of interested of them (Blood, 2000).

Blogs have existed since the mid-90s, but the popularity is only recently the blogging has exploded to the size it is today (Blood, 2000). In Malaysia, an interesting occurance in blogging activities is when the blogger politician has polarised the Malaysian political matter. Moreover, in Malaysia blogs are predominantly used for socio-political commentary or websites and also for personal writing.

The benefits of Blogging in Malaysia
Business blogspot is used to promote their products and services direct to a wider targeted audience. It is helpful to the readers to get the information about certain product and its benefits easily. For instance is home business.

In Malaysia, the 2008 General Election was considered as highly increasement in blogging polemic. It helped the opposition to highlight their thoughts in order to defeat the rulling coalition ( Tan and Ibrahim, 2008) . Anwar's blog is such of one opposition social-political blog.
